AUSTRIAN WHARRAM CIRCLE

OUR BOATS & WHO WE ARE

....we are a group of friends of the ideas of JAMES WHARRAM.

....we talk about, build and sail Wharram Catamarans. We are obviously the largest group worldwide, where this many Wharram trailer catamaran designs are sailing within a few miles. (northern Lake Neusiedl - Austria)

...many other larger designs are being built here (up to a Pahi 63) and James Wharram agent for Europe is living in Vienna - Dr. Gerhard Bobretzky - he translates plans into german and sells them on behalf of JWD, he is also sailing on Lake Neusiedl.

.... historically also interesting, one of the first circumanavigations on a Wharram has his rootes here (Tangaroa - Wolfgang Wappl (81-)

MELANESIA

Meinhard has built a MELANESIA, a HITIA 17 and a TIKI 26, currently he is working on his TIKI 38

HITIA 14

Peter joined in from Germany, see his fotos and report about time and cost of his building project

HITIA 17

TIKI 21

the most spacious 21

the most beautiful 21 between Illmitz and Gargano

TIKI is to our knowledge the only one with a fully battened Tiki main sail (by Raudaschl)

                                                  extra light with Topcat Rig

Justus is sailing his 21 at the wonderful Moldau Lake (Cech Republic)

Congratulation - just finished and launched in fall 2000

participated in 1998 summer meet trailed Cool Runnings from Berlin (Germany) to Lake Neusiedl, experienced trailer sailor (Greece, Denmark..)

David is one of the Wharram Web pioneers, his site is one of the very few existing, describing details during building from start to sailing and is still permanently updated

TIKI 26

Helmut has built probably the most beautiful boat here. AURA is the beauty between all the others, she point extremely high. Helmut is an excellent craftsman and lends a helping hand to others

Gerald is sailing a GRP Tiki (much focused on trailerability) and is organizing the Wharram meetings in Austria

Reinhold comes very close to the purified model example of the Wharram philosophy

a lightweight fast 26

CAUTION: the boat name is german - don't mix it up with english

Renate has finished her 2nd Tiki 26 project & they are currently sailing in the Med

The sensational story of the transformation of a wreck into a swan

TANE

Dr. Gerhard Bobretzky (WHARRAM AUSTRIA) a Wharram pioneer in Austria; he is selling plans for James WHARRAM. his TANE is now much older than 20 years and is doing still very well when sailing with the new Tikis

PAHI 42

Michael crossed the Atlantic on his Captain Cook

read his groovy story

PAHI 63

Peter has built his MOANA a Pahi 63 ALONE here in Vienna, finally he sold out and the boat was converted into a Tiki style ship. Up the Danube river the cat was delivered to the UK (partly with Austrian crew: Winkler, Urbanek & Ulbrich). There the ship was christined again. Her new (not very innovative) name is now BIGCAT
